There are some ground rules based on which you can qualify for Portuguese nationality. These are:  

Native Claim

Were you born in the Portuguese colonial territories of Goa, before its annexation by India in 1961? If yes, then you are eligible for Portuguese citizenship. These territories are Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli.

Lineage-based Claim

You have the right to claim citizenship based on ancestry, that is, if your parents or grandparents were born in Goa pre-annexation. For people born in Goa before 1961, up to 3 generations of their direct descendants can claim this right.

Document Checklist

Proof of residency, birth and death certificates if applying through lineage, your birth certificate, marriage proof, and every other document that is registered in Goa and is traceable via the Civil Registry System.
